What a 15 Yard Dumpster Actually Holds
Fifteen cubic yards is about six pickup truck loads. In practical terms, that is most of a three-bedroom house worth of furniture, boxes, and general household junk — or the debris from a large single-project remodel.
It is an open-top container, so bulky items go in whole — couches, mattresses, dressers, water heaters, and cabinet runs do not need to be broken down first.
One thing to keep in mind: volume and weight are two different limits, and most people only think about volume. More on that below — it is the single most common reason a rental costs more than someone expected.

- Every size we rent includes 1 ton of disposal — 10, 12, and 15 alike. A larger container gives you more room, not a larger weight allowance. Whatever size you end up comparing, look at the included tonnage and the overage rate, not just the number painted on the side.
- If one load is not enough, we will bring another. Fill it up, we will haul the full dumpster away and bring you an empty one. Each additional 15 yard load after the first is $449 — $50 off our normal $499 one-day rate — and every load includes its own 1 ton of disposal, just like the first.

Every Placer Dumpster rental, in every size, includes 1 ton (2,000 lbs) of disposal. Going up to the 15 yard buys you more room, not more weight allowance.
That matters because materials are not created equal:
- Light and bulky — furniture, boxes, plastics, brush, insulation, drywall offcuts. You will fill the volume long before you hit a ton. The 15 yard is perfect here.
- Heavy and compact — roofing shingles, tile, plaster, wet yard waste, dense scrap. You can pass 1 ton while the box still looks half empty.
Anything over the included ton is $110 per additional ton, prorated — so you are billed for what you actually go over, not rounded up to a full ton. There are no fuel surcharges and no environmental fees.
If your job runs to more than one load, each load comes with its own included ton — the allowance does not get split across the job.

What You Cannot Put in a 15 Yard Dumpster
Concrete, asphalt, dirt, gravel, rock, and masonry are never allowed in a standard dumpster, because those materials are far too heavy for the container. Clean concrete, clean dirt, clean asphalt and masonry brick go in our concrete and dirt dumpster instead, one material type per load. Gravel and rock are not accepted in any of our containers.
Also not accepted: hazardous waste and tires.
Almost everything else — mixed household junk, furniture, appliances, construction and demolition debris, roofing, flooring, yard waste — can go in together. You do not need to sort it.

Is a 15 yard dumpster big enough for a full house cleanout?
For most homes in Placer and Sacramento County, yes. A 15 yard holds roughly six pickup loads, which covers a typical three-bedroom cleanout of furniture, boxes, and household goods. Very large homes, properties with outbuildings, or cleanouts with a lot of dense material may need a second load. What happens if I go over the 1 ton included?
Extra disposal is $110 per additional ton, prorated — you are billed for the actual overage, not rounded up. Heavy materials like roofing shingles, tile, and wet debris are the usual culprits.
Can I keep it longer than one day?
Yes. Each additional day is $50, and the price stops going up after day 5. A 15 yard rental never costs more than $699, whether you keep it five, six, or seven days. That cap covers how long you keep the container. You can choose your pick-up date when you book, or call or text to extend while you have it.
Do I need a permit?
Not if the dumpster sits on your own driveway or property. A permit is generally only required when a container is placed on a public street. Rules vary by city — call us if you are unsure.
